Today’s poem is based on current events. We’ve all heard of the wildfires happening in California and I used this as the inspiration for this poem. This was written in the first-person perspective of a tree. I hope you guys enjoy it!

They say failure paves the road to success
That the darkness in the world brings out the best
While the trees around me are falling down, to be put to rest
They say life can only come from death
But looking around, I feel stressed
That whoever said that got their facts messed

Around me, the forest is ablaze
Wind blowing, spreading the flames
The sky tainted a deep red
As orange fires loom ahead
The smarter animals have all fled
But trees, with our roots, have to brave the heat instead

Some say it started when humans got careless
Others say it started with lightning flashes
Why does it matter?
Once it starts, it just burns
Scouring the forest, leaving only ashes
Wildfires devour all

Smoke billows and the fires roar
They are comforting no more
This forest isn’t pretty anymore
It looks like a battle, an ongoing war

The forest is burning
I’m scared there’s no returning

Flames dance and flicker
The smoke gets thicker
And fires get bigger

So much destruction all around me
That’s all the eye can see
Flames growing, burning down trees
The wind blows, a searing breeze
Scorching the ground, bringing us to our knees
Fires leap from tree to tree
Until they finally reach me
Burning
There is no way to make these flames stop
I’m turning into a smokestack
And that’s when I hear the crack
I fall to the earth, everything goes black

When the flames have finally passed
What’s left of the earth feels trashed
Nothing left standing
Except for some blacked, dead tees withstanding

But forests are resilient
As soon as the flames fade, the process of rebirth begins
Going through a massive change
Because these flames
Made more room for life to grow without restraints

Roots so deep
The forest always keeps
And even though things are looking down
If one looks carefully at the ground
They can see patches of green around
Life can always be found
Sometimes the slate needs to be clean
In order to show the green

They say failure paves the road to success
That the darkness in the world brings out the best
While all the trees have been put to rest
They say life can only come from death
It may seem like those facts are messed
But now this forest will grow unsuppressed
