Now more than ever, it is important to remember to embrace our differences. Today’s poem is about celebrating our differences and being more accepting of others because we’re all human.
Full of cultures and brimming with life
The diversity of people here on earth makes us look twice
The vast differences of people can create divides
As we all fight for what we believe is right
Conflicts rise and people fall
We push others away and build up walls
We create fights and brawl
And sometimes we don’t care at all
We leave destruction in our wake
We make people tremble and shake
We tease others because they are not the same
We all want to take our shots at our claim to fame
We push others down and don’t stop to pull them up
Going on our way without a stop
We ignore others when they yelp
For us to stop and help
We see differences as gaps and divides
Not to be crossed or connected by lines
We judge others by the color of their skin
Because of their different looks, we think they can’t win
We get mad at others for practicing different religions
We make fun of people because of their decisions
As we continue to make more divisions
We discriminate based on ethnicity, sexuality or gender
Never once remembering to be tender
We forget that our greatest strength
Is that we are all different
And it is because of that we are the way we are
We share our beautiful earth we created together with different hands
Our different steps shaped it into this orb
Our different minds made it home
Our different hands painted it with colors
Our different hearts fill it with happiness
We forget our similarities
We forget that we’re all human
All one species
That lives and breathes as one
Together on our small, wonderful earth
We all share one home
That we call our own
Let our healing hands close those gaps
Let our hopeful hearts build bridges over divides
And together, differences aside
Let humanity strive to reach the skies
