I have always loved trees. Yes, I’m a tree-hugger. When I was little, I remember walking on a path through the woods that would lead to this tree. It was the most beautiful tree I had ever seen. An oak with lush, green leaves and long branches. I used to spend my summer evenings climbing the tree. The memories of that tree inspired me to write this poem about an oak tree.

Meet me by the old oak tree
Where the land meets the skies and seas
When the wind whistles a sweet melody
And leaves blow about in the breeze

Meet me by the old oak tree
Where it will be just you and me
Just us, together, free

Meet me by the old oak tree
Where we can get rid of misery
Leave the world behind
So we can just be
Our very own, one of a kind

So, I took my bike out of the city
To go to the old oak tree
It’s long limbs reaching towards me
And I thought, it’s such an amazing sight to see
Such a beautiful place to be

This tree has so many stories
It has stood here for eternity
Learning the world’s history
And unraveling earth’s mysteries
As its branches grow, reaching to infinity

When I reach the tree
The stars above are shining bright
Providing me with enough light
To behold this beautiful sight
Of the old oak standing with all its might

Neither storm nor thunder
Or droughts as the weather got warmer
Brought the tree down
It still stands tall, holds its ground

When the wind blows
The leaves move
As if whispering secrets of its knowledge
To the rest of the big forest

I wonder if the trees share stories
If they gossip and talk about their worries
If they have a language to communicate
Or if they have debates

A language humans can’t understand
The language of the trees in the woodland
So their secrets will always be unknown
To us humans that are not one of their own

Trees are such majestic things
Standing tall over the forests like kings
Reaching out their long limbs
Standing through whatever life brings.
